Ross is reluctant to start a relationship with Rachel, makes Friends Episode Awesome
Ross is reluctant to start a relationship with Rachel since she's pregnant with his baby, and because he's afraid of getting hurt now that they tried being together once and it didn't work out. Meanwhile, Joey's attempts to give Phoebe tennis lessons get off to a bad start when his hand gets broken after one of Phoebe's trademark powerful forehands goes out of control. As a result, Chandler and Monica spend more time together in an effort to cheer him up after his hand starts playing up while at work.
Season 8 was thought at the time to be the final season of Friends. This is because many cast members were starting their own families and it was thought they didn't have much more to offer. Season 9 however would prove that wrong.CastRegular CastMatthew Perry (Chandler Bing)Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay)Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani)David Schwimmer (Ross Geller)Courtney Cox Arquette (Monica Geller)Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Greene)
The end-of-season cliffhanger was made available to NBC stations across the country on May 15, 2001. On that date, the finale aired from 8-9pm ET/PT, but when it was rebroadcast in its regular time slot of 9-10pm ET/PT, NBC included an extra five minutes at the end of the episode. In that time, a notice flashed across the screen with a website address offering fans a chance to vote on Rachel's last line. Two versions had been filmed: one where Rachel said "Maybe", and one where she said "Yes". The outcome was announced two weeks later on May 29, 2001 which was the night of the season finale for Frasier (1993): Rachel chooses Ross.
In Friends: The Aftermath (2002), Ross and Rachel have moved out of their houses and into Monica's apartment. As the friends come to terms with the fact that they must move out of the apartment, Monica and Chandler decide to get married. Rachel goes into a painfully slow labor while her friends get up to all sorts elsewhere in the hospital. Eventually she gives birth to a baby girl, Emma, however Ross isn't willing to restart their relationship now there's a child in the middle of it who could get hurt.
A young woman, Theresa, brings her boyfriend, Simon, home to meet her parents and surprise them with the news of their engagement. Another surprise: Simon is white. Her father does not approve, but holds his tongue until after Simon leaves. He then takes his daughter by force to see Grandma and demand that she help him in breaking off the engagement. While she's there, Theresa meets and instantly bonds with Cliff, a young black attorney who is being pushed by his family to date his heretofore-unknown African American cousin Cynthia. Fate steps in when Cliff is mistakenly invited to Thanksgiving at the Whitfield residence and Theresa is invited to dinner at Cynthia's house. She and Cliff are as attracted to each other as their families would disapprove, but they agree that it's best not to upset either family. That resolution becomes more difficult when both Cynthia (who has discovered Cliff's true ethnic makeup) and Simon both show up unexpectedly at their respective dinners with the girl's family.
